Hunkapi was started in 1996 by Dr. Debbie Crews, PhD, a researcher that found the positive correlation between horseback riding and children with AD/HD and autism. When involved with horse activities, the children showed greater self-esteem, reduced depression, and reduced anxiety. To improve the life skills and therefore livelihood of these children, Hunkapi originated itself as a therapeutic riding program at Arizona State University.
Today, Hunkapi is an independent nonprofit organization out of Scottsdale that caters to all walks of life. A Native American word meaning "I am related to everyone," Hunkapi serves as the basis to connect horses to humans, encouraging mindful movement and improved livelihood in the process.
At Hunkapi, our horses are catalysts for success. Whether you come to us in need of therapeutic riding, horseback riding lessons, corporate team-building, equine-assisted psychotherapy, counseling, equine-assisted learning, or to even host a birthday party, we can guarantee that you will walk away with a grateful sense of being.
