Our Herd

We have an amazing herd of horses that fill a slew of purposes. Without them, Hunkapi wouldn't exist. Our staff and riders are constantly blown away by the capacity of these horses to teach, guide, and heal.

 

Alfie

17h 16 year old Warmblood gelding

Alfie came to Hunkapi after retiring from his career as a Grand Prix show jumper. He had a wonderfully successful career that came to an end after sustaining an injury, after which he could no longer jump or perform at the Grand Prix level.

 

Though he couldn't jump over 5' oxers any longer, he was still eager to work and keep busy.  That's where Hunkapi came in, offering the perfect environment for Alfie's next job in life. Since joining our herd in late August 2013 Alfie has had a large impact on our program. He's been a great teacher to our riders (big and small) and a strong, patient therapy horse.

 

Easy

15.1h 16 year old Quarter Horse/Arabian gelding

 

Easy has been with Hunkapi for years. He serves as the herd's most intuitive horse and requires his riders and leaders to be present and mindful. Though his background lies mostly in Western riding and reigning he fulfills the role of an English pleasure and therapy horse well. Easy's favorite thing in the world is food, so bring along a carrot to make him your fast friend!

 

 

Teddy
15h 23 year old Quarter Horse gelding

At 23 years old, Teddy is the Hunkapi Herd elder. Wise and calm, he is our most quiet and gentle horse. Teddy moves patiently to bring confidence to both riders new to the sport or new to a certain skill set. Don't let his slow moves trick you, though, he's quite quick-spirited! You'll often find Teddy knocking over brush buckets or shaking apart saddle pads if left to his own devises.
